These red cropped jeans from Chaps showed up in my field of vision like a flare gun fired across a beige parking lot, and I want it on the record that nobody asked them to be this loud. The color sits somewhere between red and pink, the hem stops mid-calf with a kind of cheerful insolence, and the stretch denim, cotton with a little elastane, moves with you instead of arguing about it.
I watched a pair of ordinary khakis walk past these and visibly lose their nerve. They are gently used, which means they have been broken in, not broken down, and they are ready to ride shotgun on any errand you can dream up. Wear them and the afternoon starts taking orders from you.
