These pants are the color of deep water just before the last light leaves it, a teal velvet that seems to hold a little dusk in its pile. Brushed one way they darken, brushed the other they glow, and the cotton blend with its touch of stretch lets them move as easily as they look. The waist pulls on, so there is no fuss at the door, only the quiet pleasure of being ready.
Below the knee the kick flare opens with a small, confident swing, as though each hem had somewhere better to be and meant to arrive gracefully. They are new with tags, still carrying the particular hush of something never yet worn out into the evening. Someone will wear them first, and I suspect the night will remember it.
