This tankini top has the good sense to arrive in black and white, two colors that have never once been accused of misbehaving at the seaside. Its asymmetrical hem dips lower on one side than the other, which lends the whole garment the air of a person who has been perfectly punctual but is content to look as though she has only just strolled in. Made of polyester and spandex, it still wears its tags, and so comes with the rare distinction of having been admired without yet having been tested.
The buyer may tell herself that she is purchasing it for coverage, or for the convenience of a top that pairs with separate bottoms, and both reasons are sound. She will, however, be quietly gratified by the hem.
