The yellow arrives first, the bright, warm yellow of a lamp left on in a window at dusk, and then the green leaves unfurl across it as if the whole print had been waiting for someone to open a shutter. This is a strappy triangle bikini, new with tags, still carrying the faint hush of a thing that has not yet been anywhere.
The top ties and the bottoms are cut cheeky, a confident little arrangement of polyester and spandex that stretches to follow you rather than argue. It is made for the long hours between noon and the first blue shadows on the water, when the sand goes quiet and everyone seems briefly, privately happy. Some swimsuits wait patiently in a drawer for summer, and this one has clearly been rehearsing.
