This bikini has never yet met the water, and you can feel it waiting, the way a child waits at the top of a dune with the whole bright afternoon spread out below. It is red, though the title calls it pink, a warm shade that sits somewhere between a sunburnt cheek and the inside of a ripe watermelon. Along the edge runs a beach fringe, ready to sway and flick at every step.
Made of polyester and spandex, the Kelly set stretches with the running, wading and tumbling that a good summer demands. It arrives new with tags, still crisp and unworn, a small promise folded into a bag. Somebody will grow a little taller in it, and the fringe will do the dancing for her.
