Black, at the edge of a pool just after the sun has given up its argument, becomes the color of anticipation itself. This two piece carries its smocked texture like the faint ripple left on water by something that has just passed, a gathered surface that catches the last gold in its small folds and holds it there.
The cropped top and its bottoms are polyester with a little spandex for give, so the fabric follows you into the water and out again without complaint. It arrives new with tags, still waiting for its first summer, and it has the patient look of something that knows exactly how soon that will come. Black promises very little, and keeps every word of it.
